Part I: Allowable Costs, Cost Allocation, and Indirect Cost Rates
If you have a federal grant or cooperative agreement, the federal cost reimbursement system applies to your program.
This two-part webinar series will first provide an overview of the entire system, then highlight specific issues related to key cost categories and major cost allocation concepts and strategies. Though conceptually straight forward, these issues can present practical and strategic challenges.
Join FTLF to examine this key system in grants management, and to identify strategies to prepare yourself and your organization for the successful performance of your awards.
Key topics will include:
- The “allowable cost” framework and how it applies to grant-funded expenditures
- Cost allocation and related rules
- “New” requirements and flexibilities set forth in the Uniform Guidance
- The de minimis rate and when it is available
- Federally-approved indirect cost rate agreements

After these webinars, you will be able to:
- Understand the fundamentals of cost principles as they pertain to the expenditure of funds by federal grant recipients
- Discuss major concepts of cost allocation like direct allocation methodologies and indirect cost agreements
- Identify key “allowable cost” and cost allocation risk areas and describe strategies for addressing them
