Supporting Patient Transportation
Historically, federal law has stood in the way of providers offering free transportation to patients despite its value as a tool for promoting health and access to services among low income and at-risk populations. Due to recent changes in federal law, providers can now utilize a safe harbor under the Anti-Kickback Statute and Beneficiary Inducement Prohibition to offer patients free transportation to and from a provider’s service site.
This webinar will describe the Free and Discounted Local Transportation safe harbor, provide strategies for implementing a compliant transportation program, and discuss examples where health centers are contracting with ridesharing programs, such as Lyft and Uber, to address their patients’ transportation needs.
