Telehealth plays a growing role in addressing provider shortages and in ensuring federally-qualified health center (FQHC) patient access to critical behavioral health and primary care services. Offering an alternative to traditional in-person visits, e-health services, such as virtual communication services and e-consults, allow FQHC clinicians to provide their patients with cost-effective, timely and focused interventions.

Under federal guidance, states have considerable flexibility in determining whether to cover and how to pay for various e-health methods and services under their Medicaid programs. As a result, there is great variability in how states treat e-health for purposes of the Medicaid FQHC benefit and FQHC payment.

This webinar will provide an overview of the types of e-health methods and services states have chosen to cover under Medicaid. We will discuss various states’ approaches in choosing how and whether to include FQHCs in payment for telehealth encounters and other e-health services.
