We will post updates on this page as we make changes to our regular operations and policies during the ongoing public health emergency.

General Information

Is FTLF operating normally?

Yes, while we are not physically in the office, our the entire firm, including the Training Team, is working remotely.

How do I contact FTLF?

If you have questions about a training or need assistance from the Training Team, our contact information remains the same.

If you are trying to reach an attorney you work with, email or call them directly or contact our main reception desk at (202) 466-8960. We’re also happy to connect you.

Do you have resources on how to manage the Coronavirus pandemic?

Yes! We have a COVID-19 Resource Page for recent news, analysis, and industry updates. You can also find our recent Client Alerts linked above on the Blogs menu or on the Resource Center. In addition, keep an eye on your email for industry updates and new training opportunities on relevant topics or review our dedicated COVID-19 training page.

Webinars

Are you still hosting webinars?

YES! Our virtual programming continues to go forward and we are adding more sessions to the schedule all the time. Announcements for new trainings are sent to our current email lists and displayed on our dedicated COVID-19 training page (or the appropriate practice area page for topics not directly related to COVID-19).

Do you offer CPE credits for webinars?

Yes! We are approved to provide Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits for live online group learning (webinars and workshops). Note that CPEs are not available for on-demand programming. Learn more here

In-Person Training

Are you hosting any trainings in-person?

No, we are not currently hosting any trainings in-person, but the trainings are not canceled, we moved online! When Washington, DC issued its "Stay At Home" order, we rescheduled our remaining Spring 2020 workshops for dates later in the summer and fall. Starting in May 2020, we moved all in-person trainings to our virtual classroom until further notice. We will proceed with the online alternative until it is safe to resume in-person trainings in our office and bring participants from across the country together in one place. We plan to offer a virtual attendance option once we return to in-person trainings for a period of time. If you have questions about a specific training, you can read more below or contact us.

When will you begin hosting trainings in-person again?

Like many businesses, we don’t know when we will be able to resume normal operations. We certainly hope to go forward with in-person trainings soon, but as long as it remains unwise to gather together in groups, we will host our trainings virtually to protect the health, safety, and well-being of our employees, our clients, and our community. We are following guidelines from the CDC, local recommendations from the District of Columbia government, updates from our building management, and many other sources in order to make the most informed decisions possible.

What is the status for future trainings?

  • Fall 2021: All trainings scheduled through December 10, 2021, will be held virtually.
  • Winter 2022: We remain cautiously optimistic; however, our trainings bring participants together from all over the country so we are watching trends carefully and will not permit in-person attendance if we think it would be unsafe for you or our Team. We will make a decision about the Winter 2022 events on a rolling basis as more information becomes available.

Once you make a training virtual, would you switch it back to in-person?

Probably not. Once we decide that there will be no in-person attendance for an event, we are unlikely to reverse that decision, even if conditions improve and it becomes safer closer to the event date. In-person attendance requires a great deal of planning that would make it challenging to shift course, both for participants making travel arrangements to attend and for our Team in preparing for your visit.

Have you changed your cancellation policies?

No, our cancellation policies remain in place. In the event that there are any exceptions to our policies for a specific event, those exceptions and any related options will be communicated directly to confirmed registrants. We have waived transfer fees in almost all cases in order to provide you with greater flexibility during this time of uncertainty.

Should I sign up for a future training given all the current uncertainty?

Yes! We know that current circumstances make it difficult to plan ahead, which is why the virtual attendance option will be available for all of 2021, even once we return to in-person events. If your training offers a choice between in-person or virtual attendance on the registration pages, all in-person registrations will be switched to the virtual attendance option if we decide it is not safe to proceed in person. We are also waiving transfer fees if you want to switch to a future event if your schedule changes or in the hopes that we will be able to proceed in-person for the next session. Once we reopen, we will also cap our in-person attendance in order to maintain appropriate spacing for social distancing between participants. We understand that restrictions may differ across communities and aim to provide you with as much flexibility as possible while holding your space for a future event.

Virtual Classroom

What is the FTLF Virtual Classroom?

Everything you love about our small group workshop experience, retooled for an online venue to maintain social distancing for your safety.

Where is the Virtual Classroom?

We use Zoom Meetings for workshops hosted in our Virtual Classroom. This platform allows us to make both video and audio available for speakers and participants; makes it possible to share slides, resources, and take notes on a virtual whiteboard; and provides many opportunities for participation by raising hands and splitting up into breakout rooms.

How does the Virtual Classroom compare to your in-person workshops?

Our workshops were designed to encourage interactive discussion, peer-to-peer networking, and direct access to our attorneys. While the online environment is different from an in-person experience, we are working hard to ensure that our Virtual Classroom meets the same standard. In our virtual classroom, we're bringing you the same high-quality materials, live video of our attorneys, ample opportunities to ask questions, and dedicated time to connect with your peers in breakout rooms.

Can I watch a virtual workshop on-demand like a webinar?

Not yet, we are not currently recording any workshops hosted in our Virtual Classroom.

Can my colleagues join me in the Virtual Classroom?

If they are also registered for the workshop, sure! Just as it was in-person, our workshop registrations and corresponding fees are per individual, not for an organization or staff team. We do offer group discounts if you plan to register three or more individuals: please contact us for more information on group pricing. We have heard your requests for organization-level pricing and a streamlined group registration process and hope to make additional options available soon.

Which trainings are now in the Virtual Classroom?

All workshops scheduled through October 1, 2021, will held in our Virtual Classroom.

Once you make a training virtual, would you switch it back to in-person?

Probably not. Once we decide that there will be no in-person attendance for an event, we are unlikely to reverse that decision, even if conditions improve and it becomes safer closer to the event date. In-person attendance requires a great deal of planning that would make it challenging to shift course, both for attendees making travel arrangements and for our Team in preparing for your visit.

Can I transfer to a future, in-person training?

Yes! With each new event posted to our calendar, we are hopeful that we will be able to proceed in-person and we understand that many of you are eager to participate in an in-person training environment (so are we!). If you register for an in-person training and we move it to a virtual setting, you are welcome to move your registration to the next session of the training (or to another comparable FTLF training) without a transfer fee (remember that our cancellation policies have not otherwise changed). We do still limit the number of attendees for each event so we ask that you be mindful of timing and do not wait until the last minute to request a transfer, if at all possible.
