Medicare Opioid Treatment Provider (OTP) Status: Everything FQHCs Need To Know

January 11, 2021

Access the on-demand webinar here.

Beginning on January 1, 2020, Medicare recognized opioid treatment programs (OTPs) as a new Medicare Part B provider type. This change broadened coverage for Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) treatment services and expanded access for Medicare beneficiaries.

There are certain benefits to Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) obtaining dual status as OTPs, including the ability to provide and bill Medicare for a broader scope of medication-assisted treatment and associated services, and the capacity to use a broader variety of clinical professionals.

However, there are also additional compliance considerations to weigh, including state laws and scope of practice regulations, certifications from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), and enrollment in Medicare under multiple provider types. This webinar will highlight key issues for FQHCs to consider when evaluating whether to enroll as OTP providers in Medicare.

On this webinar, we will provide an overview of the OTP benefit, including:

  • The scope of covered OTP services
  • Which professionals can provide the services
  • How to navigate the Medicare enrollment process
  • Key billing codes for OTP services

In addition, we will discuss the ramp-up of OTP programs and what it means for FQHCs, ranging from new clinical and administrative staffing needs to Medicare billing considerations.

Target Audience

  • FQHC C-Suite
  • FQHC Billing Managers and Revenue Cycle Managers
  • FQHC Clinical Leadership

Learning Objectives

After this webinar, you will be better able to:
