(Recorded Webinar) Part II - Using and Disclosing PHI without Patient Consent

This series is closed for new enrollments. If you are interested in this series, please see our 2020 HIPAA for Health Centers series.

Series Description

As covered entities, health centers must comply with the same HIPAA Rules that apply to other health care providers including large hospitals and hospital systems; however, health centers often have limited time, personnel and resources to commit to HIPAA compliance. Recent HIPAA settlements demonstrate that the Office for Civil Rights (OCR) expects all covered entities (including health centers) to comply with the HIPAA Rules regardless of their size, location or mission. Non-compliance can result in civil monetary penalties and corrective action plans that last at least two years and include substantial oversight by OCR.

This webinar series introduces the key compliance requirements for health centers under the HIPAA Privacy Rule – from the designation of a Privacy Officer and development of written policies and procedures to disclosing patient information, responding to patient requests, identifying business associates and executing business associate agreements. The webinar series includes five one-hour webinars covering the following topics:

Part I - Required HIPAA Compliance Program Elements; Disclosing the Minimum Necessary

Part II - Using and Disclosing PHI without Patient Consent

Part III - Patient Authorizations to Use and Disclose PHI; Notice of Privacy Practices

Part IV - Responding to Patient Requests: Access, Amendments, and Restrictions

Part V - Business Associates: Identification and Compliance Requirements

Each webinar includes:

  • Overview of the HIPAA Privacy regulations and compliance expectations

  • Tips on developing a more robust HIPAA compliance program in your health center
