Service Animals and Emotional Support Animals

August 13, 2020

Access the on-demand webinar here.

In recent years, increasing numbers of patients have presented at health centers with their symptoms and their animal companions.  In determining how to respond, health centers must determine whether the animal is a service animal or an emotional support animal.  The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires health centers (and other entities that provide goods or service to the public) to permit service animals into their facilities (unless such access would fundamentally alter the nature of the services provided); however, emotional support animals are not protected under the ADA.  This webinar will:

  • Review the differences between service animals and emotional support animals
  • Discuss how staff should respond to disruptive animals
  • Recommend policies, procedures and trainings to support health center staff who respond to patients with animal companions

Please note: This webinar is offered as a complimentary product to all Health Center Compliance Premium Plan Subscribers. For more information on our Premium Plan, click here or Contact Us.
