Research Relationships: Primary and Subaward Compliance

March 9, 2021

Access the on-demand webinar here.

Federally funded research is often conducted within a University by faculty and staff. However, a significant portion of the required work may need to be provided outside the University by a third party through a subcontract or subaward. Proposing and managing a subaward is a shared responsibility.  The goals of the relationship and nature of the parties should drive the structure, from the initial decision to establish a contractor or subrecipient relationship to the specific legal terms that are emphasized in the agreement establishing the legal relationship.

This webinar will discuss key decision-points and key considerations in making those decisions, as well as high-risk compliance areas.  In doing so, we will address the pros and cons of standard documents such as the Federal Demonstration Partnership (“FDP”) subaward templates.  Further, we will touch upon allocation of IRB responsibilities, fundamental intellectual property considerations, and conflict of interest management.
