Duration: 60 minutes
Recorded on: 3/16/2021

Research grant recipients continue to face intense scrutiny for and allegations of inappropriate foreign influence. The United States Office of the Inspector General (OIG) for the Department of Health and Human Services has recently emphasized growing concerns regarding inappropriate influence by foreign entities over federally funded research by issuing a lengthy and detailed survey to institutions. At the same time, many other inquiries from this past year remain open.

During this webinar, speakers will discuss current best practices based on the growth in new compliance activities related to foreign influence. While the presentation will touch upon the latest cases, the majority of the time will focus on potential communication, training, procedures, and practices in accordance with guidance from the government. In particular, the session will cover:

  1. The impact of new OIG activity in this area
  2. Current Congress and DOJ/FBI efforts and laws intended to protect federally funded research from alleged foreign influence
  3. Review of the spectrum of risk: employment, administrative, civil, criminal
  4. Current expectations for balancing individual and institutional liability for Institutions of Higher Education and Principal Investigators
  5. An update on statements from the government with the change in administration
  6. Sponsored research policies, procedures, templates, tools
  7. Roles and best practices in connecting with the individuals in your community that should be part of your process to ensure accurate and complete disclosures
