Practical Skills for Head Start HR

Atlanta, GA US
February 5, 2018
Join the attorneys at Feldesman Tucker Leifer Fidell, leaders in Head Start and Early Head Start training, for this hands-on, in-depth training covering important human resources issues facing Head Start programs. This training is designed to cover two of the most important roles of HR professionals: 1) Ensuring the organization’s internal policies and procedures allow for compliant and effective personnel and 2) Conducting effective internal investigations to identify and address problems as they arise.

Drafting and implementing effective personnel policies: The Head Start Program Performance Standards require agencies to have written personnel policies that are approved by the governing board and policy council. Well-written personnel policies are crucial to an effective human resources program. The new Head Start Program Performance Standards give programs a lot of flexibility, requiring programs to make judgment calls on just how they can move from compliance to excellence. Many programs have taken this time as an opportunity to revamp their existing HR policies and procedures to not only comply with the new standards, but to tailor their internal rules to best meet the needs of their employees and communities. We will discuss best practices on how to innovate within the confines of the requirements.

Conducting internal investigations: Head Start agencies can gain protection from liability – both in human resources and other areas – by making sure that some employees have been trained to perform internal investigations. Learn the importance of internal investigations and how to perform effective investigations so that you can train others in your agency.

Target Audience

FTLF recommends anyone involved in the hiring, firing, onboarding and staff education process within the Head Start organization, but all are welcome.
